Document Security Systems, Inc.'s P3 Division Selected by Populous to be its Exclusive Manufacturer and Distributor of Gen 2 RFID Cards
ROCHESTER, N.Y., Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Document Security Systems, Inc. (NYSE Amex: DMC, "DSS") through its wholly-owned subsidiary Plastic Printing Professionals ("P3") is pleased to announce today that it has entered into an exclusive manufacturing and distribution agreement ("Agreement"), with Populous - the world's leading stadium, arena and convention center designers and event planners. P3, located in San Francisco, CA, manufactures plastic ID cards that are able to contain biometrics, RFID ("radio frequency identifier") chips, plastic watermarks and patented optical deterrents.
Under the Agreement, P3 will imbed the latest Generation 2 RFID chips, manufactured by Alien Technology into plastic cards designed by Populous for use at different events and venues. P3 was one of the first companies to successfully imbed the RFID technology into plastic pieces of various shapes and sizes.
In a recent trial conducted in June 2010 utilizing P3's Gen 2 RFID cards, Populous provided the "smart" credentials for all 2,750 attendees, guests and exhibitors at the 2010 National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics ("NACDA") Convention. NACDA's goal in implementing technology-enhanced credentialing was to better track attendance and movement at the trade show. Throughout the event, Populous was able to produce traffic data and feedback using the "live cards" vs. standard barcodes that are unable to supply real-time data. At the show's conclusion, Populous was able to provide NACDA with a wide range of statistics to aid in planning, marketing and operating future events.
Mike Caulley, President of P3 stated: "Populous is one of the most creative venue designers in the world. They combine the latest innovations in technologies that enhance a person's game or exhibition experience with the actual architectural design of the stadium or venues. It's a tremendous opportunity and a privilege to be chosen by Populous to offer our unique, state-of-the-art RFID manufacturing processes as part of their technology offerings."
"We're seeing more and more interest from our clients in using RFID technology for credentialing because it can significantly save them time and money, and it can aid in event security as well," said Jeanette Johnson, who manages Populous' credentialing services. "It's certainly helped us take credentialing a long way from the paper systems of the past and into the future."
Said Victor Vega, Marketing Director, Alien Technology, "We're proud to be an integral part of the P3 identification portfolio, providing the Higgs-3 RFID engine within their Gen 2 RFID card offerings. Alien's Higgs-3 IC offers several unique anti-counterfeiting and security features which nicely compliment and further bolster P3's extensive array of security options. P3's offerings span the gamut from short range RFID applications such as access control, to long range loyalty and event monitoring or security applications."
