Dog Tag Boot Camp Graduates First Class in Valhalla, NY
Outdoor military fitness program launches at Westchester Community College.
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., June 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Dog Tag Boot Camp (DTBC) announced today that it has graduated its first class at Westchester Community College's (WCC) main campus in Valhalla. The program, which emphasizes fitness, leadership and teamwork, began its second session on June 2.
The firm was founded in 2014 by former Marine Infantryman Rick Hyland, and aims to offer courses at various locations throughout the tri-state area. "We are off to an excellent start" says founder and lead instructor Rick Hyland. "We strive to instill more than just physical fitness in our recruits" he adds. "Our core principles are strength, endurance, leadership, and teamwork – we start and finish everything together."
The training program incorporates standard Marine Corps fitness routines, such as running, pushups, and core exercises. Advanced students engage in more intense workouts that are found in more elite military training programs; however each student works at his or her own level.
"There are two unique things about this program" according to Tara Blute, a graduate of the first class. "It is all outdoors – we get muddy sometimes!" She explains: "The program is much more than just fitness. We talk about leadership and working together. It is like a leadership class within a fitness class. It changes how you see yourself."
The program features morning, evening, and weekend classes starting in July and September. During the winter months, both indoor and outdoor classes will be offered. The company expects to expand to other colleges in the tri-state area in summer 2016.
