WASHINGTON, Aug. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Stein Mitchell Muse & Cipollone LLP announced today that Michael J. Bresnick, Executive Director of President Barack Obama's Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force, will join the Firm as a partner starting in September.
Bresnick was appointed to lead the Task Force two years ago by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. In this role, Bresnick served as a top advisor to the Attorney General, Deputy Attorney General, and Associate Attorney General on significant financial fraud matters and investigations. He also worked closely with leaders throughout the government, including more than 25 federal and state fraud law enforcement agencies and regulators, federal inspectors general, U.S. Attorneys, and state attorneys general. Bresnick created enforcement initiatives and helped set priorities for the nation's criminal and civil attorneys relating to all types of financial fraud, including fraud in the securitization and sale of residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS), investment fraud, mortgage fraud, mass-marketing consumer fraud, suspension and debarment actions by government agencies, Bank Secrecy Act, and anti-money laundering policies and procedures.
Bresnick began his decade-long career as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney's Office in Philadelphia, where he tried numerous cases and led some of the office's most complex and high profile matters involving health care fraud, public corruption, RICO offenses, and financial fraud. Later he was appointed to be an assistant chief in the Criminal Division's Fraud Section, where he oversaw a team of prosecutors investigating various complex fraud matters.
Prior to his government career, Bresnick worked for five years in the New York office of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, where he focused on white collar matters, bankruptcy litigation, and complex business litigation. He clerked for Judge Conrad K. Cyr on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and Judge Morton A. Brody on the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine.
"We are extremely pleased that Mike will be joining our firm. He is a seasoned litigator with broad experience and a long record of accomplishment," said Pat A. Cipollone, a partner at Stein Mitchell Muse & Cipollone LLP.
"Mike will be a valuable addition to our team and will enhance our firm's ability to serve our clients," stated partner Andrew M. Beato.
"I am excited to join Stein, Mitchell's team of exceptionally talented lawyers," Bresnick said. "They have demonstrated a commitment to excellence for many years, and I look forward to adding my unique experience to their practice."
