FORT COLLINS, Colo., Aug. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Fort Collins native Dr. Bret Peterson has joined the Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies as a surgeon specializing in the care of adults and children who have hand-arm-elbow injuries and conditions.
Appointments with Dr. Peterson may be made at the Orthopaedic & Spine Center's offices in Fort Collins and Loveland. Call 970-419-7050 or 1-800-722-7441. His first day of appointments is Aug. 21.
Dr. Peterson grew up in Fort Collins and graduated from Rocky Mountain High School in 1998.
Dr. Peterson is returning to Fort Collins and seeing patients at OCR after completing a decade of medical education and training. He and his family have moved here from Seattle, where he completed a fellowship training program as a hand and upper extremity surgeon at the University of Washington from 2012-13.
Fellowships provide an additional, sixth year of specialized training for orthopaedic surgeons following completion of their residency. The additional training gives physicians the opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge and expertise in their area of interest – hand, wrist, and elbow conditions and injuries, in Dr. Peterson's case. He will also treat patients' general orthopaedic problems.
Prior to his fellowship, Dr. Peterson completed his five-year orthopaedic surgery residency at Duke University in Durham, NC (2007-12), where his performance was recognized with numerous leadership and other awards.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Colorado (2003-2007), where he served as president of his class for four years. He also obtained his undergraduate degree from CU (1998-2003).
Outside of medicine, Dr. Peterson enjoys spending time with his wife Coco and their children. His other outside interests include strength, athletics and fitness; music; and reading, arts, and humanities.
The Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies and its 24 physicians provide patients with specialized orthopaedic, spine, sports medicine, and podiatry care. The practice, founded in 1969, has offices in Fort Collins and Loveland, CO. OCR's services include surgery centers, radiology, therapy, and orthopaedic worker's comp services.
