Dr. Karol Sikora Accepts Appointment to MEI Healthcare Group's Board of Directors

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla., July 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- MEI Healthcare Group, a leading provider of healthcare strategies and equipment solutions to medical facilities around the world, announced today that Dr. Karol Sikora has accepted an appointment to the company's board of directors. Sikora is the medical director of CancerPartnersUK, the largest independent cancer network in the UK, and is dean of medicine at the University of Buckingham, Britain's first independent medical school. Sikora was previously Chief of the World Health Organization's cancer programme and served as professor and chairman of the Department of Cancer Medicine at Imperial College School of Medicine. He is currently an honorary consultant oncologist at Hammersmith Hospital in London, where he served as clinical director for cancer services for 12 years, and is a fellow of Corpus Christi College in Cambridge.

While serving at Hammersmith Hospital, Sikora chaired that facility's fundraising campaign, an appeal that raised 8m pounds Sterling to construct the Cancer Centre at Hammersmith.  Later, he became vice president for Pharmacia Corporation and managed the company's global clinical research for oncology. He is currently an adviser to the World Health Organization, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and is a member of the UK Health Department's Expert Advisory Group on Cancer.

Sikora has published more than 300 papers and written or edited 20 books including Treatment of Cancer - the standard British postgraduate textbook now in its fifth edition and, most recently, The Economics of Cancer Care.  He is on the editorial board of several journals and is the founding editor of Gene Therapy and Cancer Strategy.
