PLANO, Texas, Jan. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Dr Pepper Snapple Group (NYSE: DPS) today announced a renewed pledge of support to the Dr Pepper Museum in honor of the brand's 125th anniversary through the Dr Pepper Museum Challenge Grant. This three-year challenge grant encourages avid Dr Pepper fans and communities to ramp up fundraising efforts in support of the Museum. As part of the challenge, DPS will match funds received by the Museum dollar-for-dollar up to $250,000 per year for three years with the goal of raising a total of $1.5 million by the end of 2012.
"Dr Pepper Snapple Group has long entrusted treasured artifacts and the history of many of its brands to the Museum," said Larry Young, president and CEO, Dr Pepper Snapple Group. "The continued success of the Museum is instrumental in telling our brands' stories now, and for generations to come."
Dr Pepper was invented in 1885 in Waco, Texas, and is America's oldest major soft drink. As the historic home of the brand, the Museum plays a special role in helping preserve the history of Dr Pepper and other soda brands. Originally founded in 1989, today the Museum educates and entertains the general public through the collection, preservation, interpretation and exhibition of objects relevant to the history of the soft drink industry. Located in Waco, Texas, the Museum attracts more than 60,000 visitors each year.
"Dr Pepper Snapple has been a long and proud supporter of the Museum, and we are thrilled to be part of Dr Pepper's anniversary celebrations through this challenge grant," said Jack McKinney, executive director, Dr Pepper Museum and Free Enterprise Institute. "We welcome this opportunity to enlist our fans and supporters to meet this challenge and raise $1.5 million for the Museum's future."

About the Dr Pepper Museum
Built in 1906 by architect Milton Scott, the Artesian Manufacturing and Bottling Company was the first building dedicated to the manufacturing of Dr Pepper. Creating a Dr Pepper Museum was the vision of a few devoted enthusiasts of both Dr Pepper and its history. The Artesian Manufacturing and Bottling Company became the Dr Pepper Museum in 1989, then the Dr Pepper Museum and Free Enterprise Institute in 1997. Today it is the museum's largest artifact and a tribute to the imagination and talent that fueled Dr Pepper's success throughout the years.
