NEW ORLEANS, Dec. 28, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Drew Brees and the Brees Dream Foundation announced today a $100,000 contribution to the 9th Ward Field of Dreams. The gift supports the building of a shared community space including a state-of-the-art football field, track, stadium seating, and lighting to be open to the public, free of charge, on the campus of G.W. Carver High School. The donation is part of the Brees Dream Foundation's continued efforts to give back to the city of New Orleans.
"Once constructed this facility will be the first public space of its kind in New Orleans, serving as a true community space in every sense of the word," said 9th Ward Field of Dreams founder Brian Bordainick. "Drew's commitment to our organization illustrates the fact that together we can create lasting change, and push this great city forward," Bordainick continued.
"Brittany and I are glad that the Brees Dream Foundation was able to participate in this great project," said Saint's quarterback Drew Brees.
Since its inception, the Brees Dream Foundation has committed and/or contributed more than $6,000,000 to charitable causes and academic institutions in the New Orleans, San Diego and West Lafayette/Purdue communities.
Drew Brees and the Brees Dream Foundation's gift completes a project that has a list of supporters including alumni groups, local government institutions, the Fuserna Foundation, the National Football League, Nike, Chevron, Kiwanis, and countless individuals. The passion and commitment of these organizations and individuals has defined the 9th Ward Field of Dreams as a true community effort.
The project has a 6-month construction timeline and is working closely with the Recovery School District and their architectural team as G.W. Carver High School progresses through its demolition and construction phases.
