PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Drexel University Online received prestigious Honor Roll status in U.S. News and World Report's 2012 inaugural online college rankings. The rankings mark the first time that the magazine has evaluated online higher education programs.
In the 2012 online rankings, Drexel, a private non-profit institution located in Philadelphia, PA, ranked 2nd in the nation for its online graduate nursing program, receiving special acclaim for "Student Services and Technology" and "Student Engagement and Accreditation." Drexel's College of Nursing and Health Professions offers Bachelor's of Nursing (BSN), Master's of Nursing (MSN), and highly-lauded Doctor of Nursing Practice (DrNP) degrees online, as well as several specialized post-Bachelor's certificate programs.
"We're very proud of our nursing program's reputation on-campus and online, and it's nice to have it recognized nationally," said Drexel College of Nursing and Health Professions Dean Dr. Gloria Donnelly. "We strive to distinguish Drexel's online nursing program through our faculty's dynamic engagement with students and a challenging curriculum."
Drexel's online graduate education program was similarly ranked 5th overall in the nation with 12 highly-specialized Master's of Science degrees available online.
For overall "Admissions Selectivity," Drexel ranked 20th nationally and 6th in the Northeast region. The university was also selected in the top-5 for overall "Student Service and Technology."
Drexel's online Bachelor's degrees were also recognized by the magazine.
"Online learning is special because it gives students across the country and the world a unique opportunity to receive a top-ranked education and transform their lives," said Drexel University Online president Dr. Ken Hartman.
"We're pleased that U.S. News has chosen to rank online colleges and recognize Drexel University Online for its commitment to online education and to those students who may not have the opportunity to receive an education from a school like Drexel in an on-campus environment."
Drexel University has earned on-campus recognition from U.S. News and World Report before, including a 2011 ranking as the 6th-highest "Up-and-Coming" college in the nation and a top-100 institution overall. Drexel University's main-campus boasts an on-campus enrollment of 11,170 undergraduate and 6,465 graduate students.
The university currently enrolls 1,440 online students and offers over 100 online programs.
