Christensen, RDH, PhD, have become the Honorary Members of the American Laser Study Club (ALSC) founded earlier this year by Peter Vitruk, PhD, MInstP, CPhys, DABLS to promote science-based laser dentistry, surgery and safety education.

Drs. Gordon and Rella Christensen are the most recognized and sought after dental educators, both nationally and internationally. Their Clinicians Report Foundation offers unbiased research on thousands of dental products. Dr. Gordon J. Christensen is the founder and CEO of Practical Clinical Courses (PCC) and CEO for Clinicians Report, and a practicing prosthodontist; he has presented over 45,000 hours of continuing education throughout the world and has published many articles and books. Dr. Rella P. Christensen is a Team Leader of Technologies in Restorative and Caries Research (TRAC Research) and throughout her career has taught at the under- and post-graduate levels, authored many research abstracts and reports, and received numerous professional honors.
The American Laser Study Club (ALSC) was created to fill the void in current Laser Dentistry and Laser Surgery education, namely the laser-tissue interaction science. The "sound scientific basis and proven efficacy in order to ensure public safety" is one of the main eligibility requirements for the American Dental Association's CERP Recognition Standards and Procedures. Unfortunately, some laser dentistry educational programs and publications include misinterpretations with regard to the soft and hard tissue laser science and safety. Such misrepresentations partially originate in the Laser Dentistry Curriculum Guidelines, which dates back to the early 1990s, and is missing numerous important laser-tissue interaction concepts, such as Absorption Spectra; Hot Glass Tip; Plasma Plume, etc. The ALSC has designed its Curriculum based on The Study Guide of The American Board of Laser Surgery (ABLS), it overcomes the known limitations of many laser dentistry courses. The ALSC also provides help to clinicians who prepare for the Certification Exam with the ABLS.
