Dune Medical Devices to Demonstrate MarginProbe at 2014 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBS)
MarginProbe to be available as part of pre-meeting "Red Hot Topics in Breast Cancer Surgery"
WESTBOROUGH, Mass., April 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Dune Medical Devices Inc., maker of the MarginProbe system, today announced that participants of the pre-meeting course of the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBS) annual meeting in Las Vegas will receive a hands-on demonstration with the MarginProbe. The MarginProbe, a breakthrough intra-operative tissue assessment tool for breast cancer surgery, received Premarket Approval (PMA) by the United States Food and Drug Administration in 2013. The technology significantly improves surgeons' ability to intra-operatively identify "cancer on the margin" and significantly reduce pathologically positive margins following a patient's initial lumpectomy surgery.
"We are excited to experience continued growth and interest in the MarginProbe system," said Dr. Dan Hashimshony, Founder and CEO of Dune Medical Devices. "In recent months, MarginProbe lumpectomies have been performed in consistently growing numbers in the United States and surgeons working with the system are reporting strong data."
Earlier this year, at the Miami Breast Cancer Conference, Dr. Alice Police MD, FACS, medical director of Pacific Breast Care Center an affiliate of University of California Irvine, and assistant clinical professor of surgical oncology at the University of California Irvine School of Medicine, published a study showing that in a set of 34 MarginProbe lumpectomy patients, only two patients had to come back for a second lumpectomy.
Also at this year's meeting, visitors to the MarginProbe exhibition area booth will be able to hear updates from four leading breast surgeons, who are routinely performing MarginProbe lumpectomies.
