THE HAGUE, The Netherlands, April 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
For over 35 years the "Dutch Pickers" have been searching North-America for old jukeboxes, gaspumps, cola-machines, vintage clothing, collectibles and USA decoration. The "American Pickers" have their own tv-show and it seems like they have revived this unique profession, but that's not entirely the case…
It all started as a hobby back in the seventies for Ben and Astrid Franse, but it soon became a passion which led to the impressive Bennies Fifties store in Scheveningen (Holland) and since the year 2000 they have the largest online store for retro and vintage items on the internet. In the past 3 weeks a group of buyers from the Fifties Store drove their truck through all parts of the United States to end up in Chicago where they filled up a large shipping container with their picks from this roadtrip.
As a buyer and trader in American collectibles you meet a lot of collectors, buyers, companies and private sellers.
Hundreds of containers have been shipped to Europe in the last three decades.
Old jukeboxes have been restored to their full glory and find their way to eager collectors.
Sargon Franse, Ben's son, tells us that they find so much cool stuff like advertising signs, coin-up and slot machines, Marilyn Monroe memorabilia or rare vinyl records and there is a buyer for almost anything.
Nowadays it's getting harder to find original items, but Ben and his team won't stop searching, not because it's their work, but because it's their passion and there are still treasures to be discovered.
