E-bit: Brazilian e-commerce already has 51.3 million consumers
SAO PAULO, April 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- According to E-bit, a company specialized in e-commerce information, last year, 9.1 million people bought online for the first time in Brazil, increasing the number of one-time users - that have already used the internet to purchase a product - to 51.3 million. These numbers are part of the WebShoppers 29th edition released this morning, in Sao Paulo.
The report presents a balance of Brazilian e-commerce in 2013, when the sector had a 28% nominal growth, compared to the previous year, registering R$ 28.8 billion in sales. Despite the inflation, near the upper limit of the target, and low economic growth, the number of orders increased 32%, reaching 88.3 million. Black Friday, which generated R$ 770 million in sales on a single day, is one of the explanations for such positive results, as well as the popularization of mobile broadband. The simplest smartphones connected people from C and D socio-economic classes, which had no internet access before.
Last year, Mobile Commerce began to gain strength. In January 2013, this segment represented 2.5% of all online purchase. In December, this number represented virtually double, 4.8%. The trend is that sales through mobile devices will grow even more. "Currently, there are few shops prepared for the navigation peculiarities generated by tablets and smartphones, but, throughout 2014, more companies should begin directing efforts to this channel", Guasti guarantees.
The "Fashion & Accessories" category registered most sales during the year, followed by "Cosmetics and Perfumery/Personal care/Health", "Appliances", "Books/subscriptions and Magazines", "Informatics", "Mobile Phones/Telephony", "Home and decor", "Electronics", "Sports and Leisure" and "Toys and Games", accordingly.
The report also presents a study on Product Exchange and Returns in online retail and an analysis of the sector´s prices through the FIPE/Buscape Index. It also presents a new study, performed through a partnership with Bain & Company, about the Net Promoter Score (NPS), which measures customer satisfaction and loyalty. There is also a chapter about the Omnichannel consumer in Brazil, produced together with ABComm.
