Early Detection Saves Lives -- Just Ask Detroit Lions' Jerome Harrison
NEW YORK, Oct. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- News of Detroit Lions' running back, Jerome Harrison's brain tumor diagnosis, has all but dominated the NFL headlines this past week. Harrison was due to be traded to the Philadelphia Eagles but a physical exam, which included an MRI brain scan, uncovered a brain tumor. Had he not had this scan, it is most likely the tumor would not have been discovered any time soon. The discovery of his tumor has prompted discussion within the NFL as to whether MRI brain scans should now become part of their routine physicals. Harrison's MRI brain scan was an "add on" because he had been complaining of recurring headaches.
It is estimated that over one million people in the United States have undiagnosed brain tumors. The only way to detect a brain tumor early is through an MRI brain scan. It may save a life. It may have saved Jerome Harrison.
