East Bay SPCA Offers $5,000 Reward for the Arrest and Conviction of Duck and Geese Shooter in Concord's Newhall and Willow Pass Parks
OAKLAND, Calif., Dec. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The East Bay SPCA is offering a $5,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for the shooting and killing of several dozen ducks and geese in the past few weeks in Newhall and Willow Pass Parks.
"We are deeply concerned that someone is shooting these birds," says EBSPCA Executive Director Allison Lindquist. "This cruel and illegal behavior must be stopped. People walk their dogs around the pond in Newhall Park at night. Someone could get seriously hurt," Lindquist explains.
To help find and apprehend the shooter or shooters, EBSPCA is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and capture of the person or persons responsible for the shootings.
Contra Costa Animal Services Director, Glenn Howell, says seven ducks and geese were found dead as a result of gun shots on December 3rd at Newhall Park near Turtle Creek and Ayes Roads. Three weeks earlier, eight ducks and geese were found dead at Willow Pass Park in Concord that we suspect may be the result of gun shots. "We really want to find the person or persons responsible for this crime," Howell says.
Animal cruelty is a felony in California, punishable by up to three years in jail. Anyone with information pertaining to the shooting should call Contra Costa County Animal Services Department's confidential tip line at 925.335.8362.
