East Fishkill historic home turns out to be older than first thought, as real estate pro seeks buyer
STORMVILLE, N.Y., July 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- When Pleasant Valley real estate broker and auctioneer Rob Doyle first acquired a historic home in East Fishkill, Dutchess County records showed that it dated back to the 1830s. But when Doyle investigated further, the large stone fireplace and a more thorough title search pointed to an even earlier date of the mid-1700s.
"There was something about this home that just made me fall in love, and the truth is that I probably got carried away with the renovations. I've spent a lot of money updating it – maybe more than I should have, but that's the nature of love. But as a practical matter, I can't hold onto it forever," said Doyle, president of Absolute Auctions & Realty.
Doyle admits to a touch of irony in his listing, because his company usually sells homes at auction. In fact, he had hoped to get the home sold that way recently, but that didn't work out. "I ignored all the advice I give clients. The price was too high, the renovations were incomplete and we hadn't completed the title research that showed the true age of the home. Now the renovations are done, and we've dropped the price from $399,000 to $339,000," he said.
Located at 361 Route 216, Stormville, Town of East Fishkill, the home itself likely dates back to before the Revolutionary War, but much of it is now new. Doyle's updates included new paint, refinished floors, a new roof and siding, new windows, insulation and a new driveway.
"The bones were great, and I went to great lengths to preserve the original look and feel of the home while providing the systems and amenities that people expect in a modern home," said Doyle. The home itself is approximately 2,600 square feet, with four bedrooms, with a front porch stretching across the entire front of the house.
