East San José Revitalization Launches with Alum Rock Health Center Grand Opening
New Facility Integrates Health and Art to Serve Mayfair Neighborhood
SAN JOSÉ, Calif., Sept. 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Gardner Health Services' investment in East San José came to fruition this morning with the grand opening of its new Alum Rock Health Center at 1783 Alum Rock Ave., Suite 50. A centerpiece of the La Avenida redevelopment project, the 10,080-square-foot facility provides essential medical, dental, mental and chiropractic services to the Mayfair and East San José neighborhoods. The health center is open to all, regardless of a patient's ability to pay, insurance status, or other factors like race, religion, or homelessness.
Gardner Health Services' Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Ranjani Chandramouli, highlighted the project's broader impact. "The Alum Rock Health Center is more than a medical facility; it is a symbol of the Mayfair community's resilience and shared future," Chandramouli said. "By bringing together high-quality, accessible healthcare and creative expression, our investments foster a new nexus of wellness and cultural pride that allowed us to be a part of the neighborhood that is already working to enrich East San José."
The multi-million-dollar investment was designed to spur economic activity within the proposed La Avenida Cultural District, a community-driven initiative that celebrates East San José's heritage and its residents.
Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren, who secured a $1 million federal appropriation for the Alum Rock Health Center, lauded the collaborative effort. "The Alum Rock Health Center will offer vital services that directly address the needs of San José residents and build a stronger, more vibrant community for everyone," Lofgren said. "I'm proud to have helped deliver critical funding for this facility, and I will continue to support projects that maintain and expand care for California's 18th district."
The opening comes with support from key partners, including the School of Arts and Culture, Santa Clara County, the City of San José, The Health Trust, and numerous other community-based organizations like the Si Se Puede Collective.
"For generations the Mayfair community has been the backbone of Silicon Valley," said Santa Clara County Board Supervisor Susan Ellenberg. "With this investment, we are supporting the very people who made this region strong by addressing health disparities, expanding access to preventative care, and advancing the holistic health of our neighbors."
