Easter Seals Coastal Fairfield County Celebrates the 60th Anniversary of Camp Hemlocks

HEBRON, Conn., July 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Easter Seals Coastal Fairfield County will host a cookout this Wednesday to celebrate 60 years of Camp Hemlocks, a summer camp for children and adults with disabilities and special needs. It will be a great opportunity to tour the camp, meet the extraordinary staff, and enjoy a celebratory barbeque.

Camp Hemlocks has filled -- and continues to fill -- the recreational gap for citizens of all ages with disabilities and gives them a place where they can experience the outdoors without physical barriers.  Easter Seals Camp Hemlocks has provided services to over 500 individuals with disabilities every year since 1950

Camp Hemlocks runs for eight weeks and offers residential and day camp programs. Sitting on 100 acres of unspoiled woodlands surrounding Jones Pond in Hebron, Connecticut, Camp Hemlocks allows campers to choose from a wide variety of social, recreational and educational activities, such as talent shows, arts and crafts, outdoor living skills, boating and fishing, a challenge course, and climbing tower.  Swimming is also an integral part in the camp experience. Campers are encouraged, sometimes for the first time in their lives, to move without restriction in our fully accessible, heated indoor pool.
