Benefitting The Ed Asner Family Center For Families Affected by Autism and Special Needs
HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Nov. 6, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Ed Asner, seven-time Emmy®-winning actor affectionately known as Lou Grant and UP's Carl Fredricksen, is turning 90 years old and Hollywood came out to roast and celebrate this special milestone. Highly acclaimed artists Mark Hamill (Star Wars franchise), Cloris Leachman (Spanglish, The Last Picture Show), Brad Garret (Everybody Loves Raymond, Single Parents), Ed Begley Jr. (Ghostbusters, Pineapple Express), Rob Schneider (Grown Ups, Saturday Night Live) and Richard Kind (Argo, Inside Out) were among those who roasted the legendary actor at the Ed Asner 90th Birthday Party on November 3, 2019 at The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The evening, hosted by Tom Bergeron, benefitted the new Ed Asner Family Center, dedicated to fulfilling Asner's passion and commitment to promoting mental health and enrichment programs to special needs children and their families. Over 400 entertainment executives, celebrities, industry influencers, autism advocates, community and civic leaders and philanthropists came together to celebrate.

Headlining the musical entertainment was a showcase by singer songwriter Jackson Browne and musical performances by Grammy® winners Darius Rucker and Steve Lukather of Toto, who both performed a medley of their top hits. The Atlantic City Boys Band also sang hits of the 50's and 60's Rock-n-Roll era. Additional guests included Mike Darnell, Pete Docter, Mike Ferrell, Peter Jason, Maureen McCormick, Jonas Rivera, Elizabeth J. Carlisle, Geoff Zanelli, among many others.

The gala also offered an exclusive silent and live auction, as well as a spirited "Fund-A-Mission" auction where guests had the opportunity to support special The Ed Asner Family Center initiatives, including summer camp for kids with autism and other programs for the community. Parent Shelby Landucci gave a heartfelt description of parenting her autistic daughter Zoe. Renée Frigo served as the Event Chair and Dwight Kennedy as the Director/Music Producer & Writer.

The evening spotlighted Asner's tireless efforts to create The Ed Asner Family Center founded by his son Matt and daughter-in-law Navah Paskowitz-Asner. A longtime advocate for those on the autistic spectrum, Asner personally understands the challenges that Special Needs families face with his own autistic son and grandson, and the healing power of a creative, loving environment.
The Ed Asner Family Center, located in Reseda, California, is dedicated to promoting self-confidence in differently "abled" individuals, bringing balance and wellness to them and their families through arts and vocational enrichments and mental health services. The Center not only caters to the needs of the child but aims to engage the whole family in order to help them face their unique challenges.
