eDEC Digital Forensics and Teel Technologies Offer Certification in Chinese Phone Forensics
--Teel Tech Chinese Phone Forensics Class with Tarantula Certification To Be Held in McLean, VA and at Mobile Forensics Conference, Myrtle Beach--
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. and MCLEAN, Va., March 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Over 30% of cell phones worldwide are based on chipsets designed and manufactured in China. This trend is expected to increase to over 50% going forward into 2012 and beyond. While that may not seem surprising given the amount of Chinese technology being exported, the tools and techniques for forensic analysis of these phones have been absent until recently. The lack of adherence to industry standards from manufacturers of these devices has made them difficult for digital forensic investigators to analyze, increasing their appeal among the criminal element. For this reason, eDEC Digital Forensics (www.edecdigitalforensics.com) and Teel Technologies (www.teeltech.com) are combining the requisite products and training needed to help investigators adapt to the challenges that these phones present.
To address the need for further education among US law enforcement officials, Teel Technologies is offering two certification classes focusing on the analysis of mobile devices that incorporate Chinese chip sets. The first in McLean, VA from April 16-18, 2012, and the second at the Mobile Forensics Conference in Myrtle Beach from June 6- 8, 2012. The class is designed to educate field professionals about the insidious adoption of Chinese chipsets among criminals as well as certify attendees in the use of eDEC's Tarantula system.
Tarantula is currently the only forensic analysis system on the market that can acquire and decode data from phones with chipsets manufactured by all of the major Chinese chip companies – MTK, Spreadtrum, Infineon, and Mstar. The system was initially developed for use in China where law enforcement first encountered the knock-off cell phone problem. A record 700 million cell phones were produced in China from January to August in 2011, up 19% from 2010, and that trend is expected to continue[1]. With popular international phone manufacturers increasingly incorporating Chinese chipsets into their phones, Chinese phone forensics is a critical new area of competence for federal, state, and local investigators.
Curriculum includes three days of intensive training designed to familiarize forensics investigators and other law enforcement officials with Chinese chipset technology as well as educate and certify them on the use of the Tarantula designed to combat this invasion.
