Education Pioneers and the University of Michigan Partner to Find Solutions to Attract 10,000 Education Leaders
University's 2013 Social Impact Challenge Will Develop Effective Growth Strategy for National Nonprofit to Transform the Education Sector
OAKLAND, Calif., Feb. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With the goal of transforming the education sector by introducing thousands more top leaders and managers into education leadership careers nationwide, including hard-to-staff cities like Detroit, Education Pioneers and the University of Michigan have joined forces. Education Pioneers, a $10 million national nonprofit organization operating in 18 cities nationwide, will be the subject of the University of Michigan's 2013 Social Impact Challenge, sponsored by the university's Nonprofit and Public Management Center.
Education Pioneers' work rests on a fundamental belief that smart investments in leadership generate significant returns. Highly successful private-sector organizations like Google, IBM, GE and McKinsey & Company know that the best way to achieve ambitious results is to find, develop and retain the best people in leadership and management roles. Education Pioneers believes that for schools, districts and systems to enable all children to achieve at high levels, the quality of leadership and management is vital.

To ensure that all children have access to a high-quality education, Education Pioneers has a bold vision to attract and prepare 10,000 top leaders and managers by 2023, and support them to advance into high-impact education leadership careers, especially in high-need areas. Currently, Education Pioneers has a network of more than 1,600 leaders and partnerships with over 180 education organizations. More than 70 percent of Education Pioneers Alumni work full-time in education following graduate school. Education Pioneers expects that the 2013 Social Impact Challenge will provide creative and effective solutions for the organization to scale dramatically over the next 10 years.
The 2013 Social Impact Challenge is a unique partnership between the University of Michigan's top-ten ranked schools of business, social work, policy and education. Based at the Ross School of Business, the Nonprofit and Public Management Center provides a multidisciplinary approach for utilizing management skills to address social challenges. Many Michigan students and alumni also participate in the Education Pioneers Fellowship programs, and others share a passion to work in the education sector.

During the Challenge, students will apply classroom learning and research to develop strategic and tactical recommendations towards an effective growth strategy for Education Pioneers to reach their goal of attracting, preparing and advancing 10,000 new leaders by 2023. As a component of the growth strategy, teams must specifically address how Education Pioneers can grow in some of the highest need areas for educational leadership such as Detroit. The 2013 Social Impact Challenge is open to all University of Michigan graduate students and the winning team will receive $2,500.
Challenge finalists will present their recommendations to a panel of judges, including Scott Morgan, Founder & CEO of Education Pioneers, on Thursday, February 21st. Results of the challenge will also be announced on February 21st, and Scott Morgan will give the keynote address.
