Ekahau RTLS Enables Asset and Temperature Tracking in Five VISN-10 Veterans Health Administration Hospitals and Two Clinics

RESTON, Va., Oct. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Ekahau Inc., the high-performance leader in Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS) today announced that its RFID-over-Wi-Fi™ asset and temperature tracking solution was implemented over the Cisco WLAN by VetFed and Shipcom Wireless Inc. consortium, across seven Veterans Health Administration (VHA) VISN-10 medical centers in Ohio. The Veterans Health Administration's VISN-10 RTLS project helps improve patient care while allowing administrators to gain dynamic visibility into day-to-day operations, share data across facilities, and improve operational efficiency. The award value for the RTLS contract was $22,561,455 and the initial installation of the five-year project was completed in September 2013.

The VISN-10 RTLS project includes approximately 10,000 Ekahau active RFID asset tags affixed to medical equipment, enabling caregivers to quickly locate equipment on web-based maps and alarming if equipment leaves designated zones, to prevent accidental removal. Additionally, 750 Ekahau temperature sensors continually record and report the real-time temperatures of tissue and blood refrigeration units in order to prevent loss and spoilage.

The VISN-10 RTLS project was designed for high-availability (HA) and is fully integrated with the Shipcom Catamaran unified platform supporting stable and scalable mobility, barcode, RFID, GPS, GPRS, and RTLS architectures. Ekahau RTLS was also integrated with Cisco's Mobility Services (MSE) which streamlines Wi-Fi-based RTLS adoption in large scale deployments such as VISN-10.
