TULSA, Okla., Dec. 20, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- PennWell Corp. — Electric Light & Power magazine has named two Utility CEOs of the Year: Indianapolis Power & Light Co. President and CEO Ann D. Murtlow and Peterborough Utilities Group President and CEO Larry Doran.
Both winners will accept their awards during the second annual Electric Light & Power Executive Conference, Jan. 30-31, 2011, at the Omni San Diego Hotel.
"Ann and Larry came out on top when we evaluated North American electric utility CEOs," said Teresa Hansen, editor in chief of Electric Light & Power magazine. "Ann avoided layoffs by cutting spending at Indianapolis Power & Light, and throughout her eight years as CEO there, she's applied that balanced approach to many challenges. Larry's municipally owned utility has become Ontario's first to build a solar farm. That's huge because Ontario has promised to shut its domestic coal-generating stations by 2014. Ann and Larry crafted solutions when others said it couldn't be done."
Murtlow won in the large utility division, open to North American electric utilities with 400,000 customers or more. Indianapolis Power & Light was the large division's Cinderella story, having nearly 470,000 customers. In comparison, the largest U.S. electric utility, Exelon Corp., has 5.4 million customers.
Doran won in the small utility division, open to North American electric utilities with fewer than 400,000 customers. Peterborough Utilities Group has some 34,000 customers.
The Electric Light & Power Executive Conference provides executives access to exceptional and otherwise inaccessible speakers, as well as first-class, enjoyable networking opportunities. Attendees will share ideas during several sessions: Electric Vehicle Update, Customer Outreach, State of the Economy, Data Privacy, Regulator Snapshot, Energy Storage Overview and Raising Capital. Attendees also are encouraged to rub elbows with the keynote speakers, FOX News business and financial journalist Stuart Varney and F-16 pilot and founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation and Patriot Golf Day Maj. Dan Rooney.
A feature article on both CEOs of the Year will appear in the January-February issue of Electric Light & Power magazine and on the magazine's website, http://elp.com.
