Eleven Leading Business Schools from Israel and Abroad Participated in the Prestigious Annual Sofaer International Case Competition
The competition hosted by the Eli Hurvitz Institute at the Recanti School of Business at Tel Aviv University

- SICC 2014, the Sofaer International Case Competition, took place at Tel Aviv University's Recanti School of Business on Wednesday, May 21st, 2014, as part of the ongoing activities of the Eli Hurvitz Instituteof Strategic Management. This year, the prestigious international case competition is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
The team of judges is comprised of leading businesspeople in the Israeli market as well as researchers from leading universities around the world who are accompanying the international teams. Among the leading businesspeople judging this year's case are: Jeremy Coller, founder and CIO at Coller Capital; Roy David, Deputy Managing Director at Poalim Capital Markets, Yoel Esteron, founder and publisher of Calcalist, Israel's economic newspaper, Stella Handler, CEO at Bezeq, Haim Hurvitz, Member of the Board and CEO at the CHealth investment fund,,Dr. Kobi Vortman‚ President and CEO - InSightec ,Dr. Giora Yaron, Chairman of the Executive Council at Tel Aviv University.
Udi Aharoni, head of the competition, the case's writer and Director of the Eli Hurvitz Institute for Strategic Management at Recanti School of Business in Tel Aviv University explains: "In a dynamic, fast-changing world, companies cannot abandon their strategic vision, long-term thinking and mainly, innovation. The SICC competition allows Israeli companies operating in the global arena to enjoy an out-of-the-box approach to their strategic analysis. Results from previous years have gained much appreciation from the case companies and have often been the lever for their further business development".
Eleven teams are contending at SICC 2014, originating in leading business schools from Israel and across the globe, including: the hosting party, Recanati Business School at Tel Aviv University; UCLA, USA; Emory, USA; Rotman, Canada; Cambridge, UK; CBS, Denmark; HKUST, Hong Kong; Wits, South Africa; NCCU, Taiwan; and Israeli academic institutes: Ben-Gurion University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem .
The Finalist groups came from HKUST, NCCU and UCLA. The Team that won the finals is the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology- HKUST, That offers a new business model based on a model-RAZOR BLADE RAZOR.
SICC is based on a case study written specifically for the competition involving an Israeli company operating in global markets. Each of the participating teams is required to showcase a strategic analysis of the case dilemma considering long-term planning.
The company which was the subject of SICC2014- InSightec, an innovative Israeli medical device company, is perhaps the best kept secret of the medical world. A pioneer in the field of focused ultrasound (FUS) treatments, its literally cutting edge technology has the potential to revolutionize the way we think about surgery, neuroscience and interventional medicine. At the end of the competition, all eleven solutions will be presented to the case company.
Prior cases featuring at SICC include innovative industrial companies: Caesarstone (2013) and Tefron (2007); internet companies: Babylon (2012) and Perion (IncrediMail) 2011; large industrial companies Adama (Makhteshim Agan) (2005), Strauss‐Elite (2006),and; the innovative technological company: Given Imaging (2008); and start-up companies Kiiama (2010) and ACE - Applied Cognitive Engineering (2009).
