E.L.I. Land Design Awarded Contract to Develop Historic Vargo's on The Lake Property

HOUSTON, July 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- E.L.I. Land Design has been commissioned by Hunington Properties to provide landscape architectural services for "Vargo's on The Lake", a new multi-family development planned to replace the historic Vargo's Steakhouse property.

The Vargo's property has long been recognized as one of Houston's most iconic landmarks.  The Vargo's property is unique; being recognized by many for multiple gardens and the outdoor experience it has created for patrons over the years.

The design and development of the Vargo's project include outdoor amenities such as resort style pool with a custom "water tree" feature and a modern one-off cabana with gas terrace fire pit overlooking Lake Vargo.  The development also calls for a courtyard centered around a series of reflection pools and an off-leash dog park.

Chris Eiseman of E.L.I. Land Design states, "The unique site topography, existing soils, and flood control issues presented many challenges to our design solution. However, these challenges created the opportunity for the most notable landscape amenity of the new development, that being the reintroduction of Houston's native landscape, the gulf coast prairie. Residents and their guests will be able to experience Lake Vargo as it was 40 years ago."

E.L.I. Land Design has collaborated with Steinberg Design Collaborative and Brown and Gay Engineers to complete the design phase of this project.  E.L.I. will work in conjunction with Davis Brothers in the construction of Vargo's on The Lake. E.L.I. land design will begin construction of a 13000SF plus retaining wall system in the first week of July with a completion data scheduled for the middle of September.
