Emmis Publishing Names Mary Melton VP/Editorial Director of Emmis Publishing

INDIANAPOLIS, May 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Emmis Publishing today announced that Los Angeles magazine Editor-in-Chief Mary Melton will take on the additional responsibilities of Vice President/Editorial Director of Emmis Publishing.

In her new role, Melton will be responsible for the continuing Emmis Publishing's legacy of editorial excellence across its portfolio of leading titles, which include Texas Monthly, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Orange Coast, Indianapolis Monthly and Cincinnati. Melton is taking over the role from Deborah Paul, who retired on April 1 after more than 30 years with the company.

Last week, Emmis Publishing picked up three National Magazine Awards, two for Texas Monthly and one for Los Angeles.

Melton came to Los Angeles magazine as a Senior Editor in 2000, became Executive Editor in 2002, and Editor-in-Chief in 2009. Under her leadership, the magazine has been honored with eight National Magazine Award nominations and three wins. She has also relaunched the magazine's Web site, LAmag.com. Prior to her position at Los Angeles, Melton was an editor and writer at the Los Angeles Times Magazine. She began her journalism career as an intern at—and later Managing Editor of—the LA Weekly. A fourth-generation Angeleno and a graduate of Hollywood High School, Melton holds a degree in history from UCLA.
