Energizer Battery, Inc. Announces Recall of Rotating Nightlight
ST. LOUIS, Aug. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Energizer Battery, Inc. announced on August 22, 2012 the voluntary recall of its Rotating Nightlights sold under the Energizer brand that were manufactured between January 2010 and January 2011. Internal testing has revealed that in some units the capacitor in the nightlight can overheat, potentially generating a significant amount of smoke and causing the fire-resistant plastic on the outside of the light to become hot to the touch. If this occurs, it can potentially pose a burn hazard. To date, Energizer has received nine consumer complaints regarding this product, with no reports of injury.
Energizer distributed approximately 260,000 units of the affected product in the U.S. only. The product was sold in Target retail stores nationwide beginning in February 2010 through July 2012 for about $6.
Energizer is working in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission to cease distribution of and recall this product.
Consumers can determine if an Energizer Rotating Nightlight is covered by this recall by reviewing the following information. The night lights are white and have an LED light inside an adjustable dome on top. The night lights measure about 2 inches wide (diameter) by 2 ½ inches long. Model number "NLPLROT" and date codes between 0110 (for January 2010) through 0111 (for January 2011) are included in this recall. The model number is stamped onto the side of the night light. The date code is stamped in a circle on the back of the night light. The arrow points to the month of production (i.e. 12 = December) and the number positioned on either side of the arrow represents the year (i.e. "10" = 2010).
Through the recall program, consumers who return the Rotating Nightlight to Energizer will receive a coupon in the amount of $7.00. Energizer will provide a pre-paid mailing label for easy return. Consumers should not attempt to return the recalled product to retailers. For more information about the product and the recall program, consumers can call (800) 383-7323 Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Central Time. Consumers can also go to www.energizer.com to see photos of the recalled product, and to obtain further information regarding the recall program.
