- Plogg Provides High Resolution Analysis of Energy Consumption for Consumer Appliance Manufacturers
The Plogg from Energy Optimizers Limited (EOL) is used to evaluate the energy performance and profile of electrical appliances based upon actual consumer behaviour.
The plogg is a combined smart meter plug and data logger. It can be attached to any electrical appliance or device that uses a standard mains socket in Schuko, UK, French or USA formats. The Plogg is able to measure the electrical energy consumption of connected devices and appliances at high levels of resolution, up to 1 minute as standard and at higher levels of up to 2 seconds in customised versions.
The benefit for appliance manufacturers is the capability to use the Plogg in field trials unobtrusively in order to observe consumers' behaviour and actual patterns of use during each duty cycle and at time of use, whether daily or weekly. This valuable data assists the manufacturer in identifying the commonly used operating programs and to optimise the energy efficiency of the appliance based upon actual behaviour patterns rather than simulated laboratory tests.
Data logging on the Plogg can be set to either Event dependence or Time dependence. In the former case the logs are captured only at predefined set points, when the appliance is switched on or off and when the power (Watts) exceeds certain limits, imitating the various cycles used in the appliance. Alternatively, the Plogg can be set to monitor the appliance based on time dependency only to capture detailed data about the performance of the appliance. The logs are stored on the Plogg until downloaded to a PC locally or remotely via the internet.
