ENGINE Sports Lab Hawaii Improves Athletic Performance through Advanced Technology
HONOLULU, April 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- "Engineered for Excellence. Built for Performance." This is the pledged outcome for members at ENGINE© Sports Lab, but does it really work? McKenna Granato, a volleyball player and senior at Punahou High School, believes it does. Her parents, coaches, and teammates agree. According to Granato, since working out at ENGINE Sports Lab, she is stronger and quicker, and has increased her vertical jump by three inches since January.
ENGINE Sports Lab utilizes the most advanced technology available in sports science to help Hawaii's collegiate, varsity and junior-level athletes reach their athletic goals. Their program integrates neurosensory and physical training to allow athletes to measure and improve all parameters related to athletics. ENGINE Sports Lab opened in August of 2012, a concept of Michael Bennett, M.D., FACS of the Retina Institute of Hawaii, to bring innovation in vision science featuring the Nike SPARQ Sensory Station. ENGINE Sports Lab mirrored research findings utilizing the resource, "Designed to Move" by Nike Inc.
"By using our medical background and applying the athlete's natural ability, ENGINE training uses data points to enhance performance, making the athlete stronger, faster and more resilient to injury," says founder Dr. Michael Bennett, "With equal importance, technology allows us to evaluate and improve the athlete's neurosensory skills, helping them see and react with greater perception and accuracy."
In addition to improving one's athletic skills, ENGINE develops and supports athletes by promoting character development, leadership, and athletic performance progression. Scouted by eight Division I Colleges, Granato's choice came down to "responsibility". "I had to be responsible for myself by working on things that can make me better as an athlete and a student. ENGINE helped me learn the techniques needed to make me stronger and also to prevent injuries in a safe and effective way. It's improved my game." She has committed to University of Hawaii - Manoa for this fall.
ENGINE works with athletes of all ages and abilities from both the private and public sector, and patients in need of vision rehabilitation to help them achieve consistent levels of performance. Providing three levels of service, ENGINE offers supervised membership services, a Sports Academy for group fitness sports-specific training, and Sensory Classes five nights a week to assess the ten aspects of sensory skill as they relate to a personalized sport and training plan.
