REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Nov. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Ensenta Corporation today announced that it has received its fourth patent in two years from the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Patent Number 8,824,772, "System and Method for Improved Remote Deposit Image Handling," addresses key challenges in the usability of remotely captured check images in deposit processing.
Some check images captured by mobile phones, ATMs, kiosks or desktop scanners can be unsuitable for processing by financial institutions. Skewed image orientation, poor focus and lack of sufficient contrast can render amounts, account numbers, signatures and other information illegible. In addition, processing standards require conversion of original grey scale images to bitonal formats to reduce file size. The conversion can result in the loss of some or all of the information on both sides of the check. Financial institutions today address these problems by asking customers to repeat the capture and transmission of check images.
Ensenta's patented Check Edit ExpressTM enables efficient and early editing of problem images. Color, grey scale and bitonal images are used to optimize usability. Intuitive tools, user interfaces and advanced algorithms enable correction of skew, cropping, focus, contrast and other issues. Financial institutions save cost by not having to process a deposit multiple times. Customers avoid the frustration of having to repeat remote deposit processes.
"With Check Edit Express, we are able to completely eliminate the need for depositors to crop images," said Richard Klein, chief technology officer, Ensenta Corporation. "In the occasional case where the automatic results are not satisfactory, the bank or credit union can correct the cropping without asking the depositor to resubmit. The reviewer can also take a peek at the original full-color images to help detect or rule out fraud."
"This fourth patent in two years is in keeping with our bedrock Silicon Valley culture of innovation," added Ed Viera, chief executive officer, Ensenta Corporation. "We look forward to continuous improvement in the service we offer our customers, and indeed their customers."
