EPA Recognizes American DG Energy for Emissions Reductions of CHP Systems
Total 2010 Carbon Emissions Reductions Increased 38% Over 2009
WALTHAM, Mass., March 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- American DG Energy Inc. (NYSE Amex: ADGE), a leading OnSite Utility, offering clean electricity, heat, hot water and cooling solutions to hospitality, healthcare, housing and athletic facilities, was recognized for the fifth consecutive year by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Partnership for the carbon emissions reductions of the Company's CHP systems.
American DG Energy, a member of the CHP Partnership, was presented with a greenhouse gas reduction certificate by the EPA in recognition of the Company's contribution to efficient U.S. energy production. The 2010 certificate states that the high efficiency of the Company's CHP systems prevented an estimated 22,000 metric tons (90,000 tons) of carbon equivalents compared to typical energy supply systems, resulting in annual carbon emissions reductions equivalent to the emissions from 4,151 passenger vehicles. This represents a 38% increase over the Company's emissions reductions stated in the 2009 certificate, which was 16,000 metric tons (65,000 tons).
"With every CHP system we add to our fleet, our carbon emissions reductions increase," said John N. Hatsopoulos, Chief Executive Officer of American DG Energy. "As we expand our On-Site Utility into the UK and Europe and add our new emissions reduction technology, those emissions reductions will become even greater."
As an example, a 75 kW CHP system, operated by American DG Energy, running at 100% capacity could generate offsets up to 371 tons of carbon dioxide each year, the equivalent of eliminating the emissions of 61 cars. Over the lifetime of a typical on-site energy agreement a single CHP system could offset up to 5,565 tons of carbon dioxide, equivalent to the emissions of 915 cars.
