Lowe's Companies, Inc. (NYSE:LOW): Lowe's was down 0.86% to US$26.43 on over 15.11 million shares, compared to its average volume of 17.09 million shares. Last week, the company declared a dividend of 16 cents, up over 14% from the last dividend. Dividends are payable on Aug. 8 to shareholders of record as of July 25. The company reported first-quarter net income of US$527 million, or 43 cents a share, up from a year ago profit of US$461 million, or 34 cents a share. Quarterly revenue grew 8% year over year to US$12.19 billion. Same-store sales grew 2.60% and comparable sales in U.S. surged 2.70%. For the fiscal year 2012, the company projects to earn US$1.73 to US$1.83 a share on revenue of US$50.69 billion to US$51.2 billion, from earlier earnings guidance of US$1.75 to US$1.85 a share. Seagate Technology PLC (NASDAQ:STX): Seagate jumped 2.08% to US$22.60 with more than 11.37 million shares, compared to its average volume of 14.28 million shares. Recently, Seagate Technology reached an agreement to buy a majority stake in LaCie SA and valued the entire deal at US$186 million. The company has agreed to buy all the shares held by LaCie's chairman and chief executive officer, and his affiliate for a 64.50% stake in LaCie. In exchange, every shareholder will get 4.05 euros or US$5.12 in cash. Recently, the company announced that its board has approved to buyback further US$2.5 billion of its common stock. After the approval, the total buyback plan has now been increased to US$3.50 billion. The company had reported solid fiscal third-quarter results boosted by strong sales. The company said that net income during the quarter soared to US$1.14 billion, or US$2.48 a share, from a year ago profit of US$93 million, or 21 cents a share. Revenue during the quarter grew to US$4.45 billion, from US$2.70 billion in the same quarter of the past year. Analysts were projecting revenue of US$4.37 billion for the quarter. The company shipped 61 million units during the quarter, an increase of 29% from the previous quarter. Gross margin also improved to 37%. Total generated cash during the latest period came in at US$938 million, while the company expended US$1.1 billion to repurchase stock and retire debt.
