Lasers in the soft-tissue segment can replace one another in dental offices. Therefore, when one segment is particularly successful, the other two segments tend to contract as a result. This trend will be more evident over the course of the forecast period, during which time the diode laser segment will increase its market share at greater rate than that of the other two segments. The soft-tissue laser market experienced slower growth in the CO2 and Nd:YAG segments due to the increasing popularity of diode lasers.
The soft-tissue laser market is limited by several factors. First, dentists are still reluctant to make the initial investment in laser technology when the traditional methods work just as well for their practice. Second, although all-tissue lasers are more expensive, they represent a viable alternative to soft-tissue lasers with their wider range of applicability. Third, the lack of government reimbursement for laser treatment by several European countries creates a significant disincentive for dentists to incorporate this technology into their daily workflow. Consequently, soft-tissue dental lasers will remain more or less as a static market throughout the forecast period, where diode lasers will maintain a stronger, but still relatively static market growth compared to the other two segments.
Abstract
The dental surgical laser market includes all-tissue and soft-tissue lasers. Dental surgical lasers result in operational benefits to dental practices by enhancing the appeal for patients to undergo treatments using modern technology over traditional methods. Dental surgical laser technology greatly enhances dentists' efficiency and effectiveness of treatments as well as increases patient comfort and willingness to undergo uncomfortable procedures. Soft-tissue lasers are dental lasers that are effective on tissues surrounding teeth and can be used to contour gingiva, sterilize the intraoral cavity and minimize bleeding during procedures. These lasers turn several dental procedures into painless, comfortable and rapid operations, significantly increasing patient satisfaction. Soft-tissue lasers can be categorized into diode, CO2 and Nd:YAG lasers.
