Even Engineers Need an Occasional Rewiring; SAE International Webinar Focuses on Changes in Industry
WARRENDALE, Pa., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- There's a big change going on in automotive engineering. Increasing development of hybrids, plug-in hybrids, EVs and E-REVs – the so-called "electrification of the vehicle" – is driving demand for engineers with new skill sets. This new breed of engineer has to understand not only electrified-vehicle technologies, but also the issues of energy and its distribution.
SAE International is helping its members adapt to this exciting new field. On Thursday, Aug. 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., SAE International's Automotive Engineering International and Off-Highway Engineering magazines will host "Re-engineering the Engineer" – a telephone/Webcast enabling SAE International members to learn about new professional and educational opportunities related to hybrids and EVs in a "live" online discussion with industry and university experts.
"Our Webcast on Aug. 19 gives SAE International members valuable insight into how vehicle electrification is creating new career opportunities, as growth in hybrids and EVs melds the traditional mechanical and electrical engineering roles," said Lindsay Brooke, Senior Editor for SAE International's Magazines Group. "We'll have experts from one of the leading industry-university partnerships talk about new career paths, curricula and training that are helping working engineers and students take advantage of the growing focus on electrified vehicles."
Topics of discussion will include:
- Industry trends driving the need for new engineer competencies, knowledge, and training.
- How battery technology brings chemical engineering into greater importance.
- The demands placed on OEMs and suppliers for engineers who understand not only vehicle electrification technologies, but the boarder issues of energy and distribution.
- A look at the new wave of industry-academia partnerships.
The webcast is open to SAE International members for $99, SAE section and student chapter-sponsored sites for $79, and displaced automotive industry professionals for $40.
