EVENT TODAY, Santa Monica - LA-Based Race Driver Tanner Foust Brings Home the First Ever Cross-Country Drive on One Tank of Non-Petroleum Fuel (NEXBTL)
Neste's NEXBTL renewable diesel will soon be available in Southern California
SANTA MONICA, Calif., June 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Four-time X Games champion Tanner Foust leads a team of motorsport enthusiasts into Santa Monica at about 11:00 a.m. on the street behind Loews Hotel, 1714 Appian Way, Santa Monica. The brightly colored street-legal race car will have completed a more than 2,400-mile trip from the Atlantic Coast to the Pacific while using less than one tank of renewable diesel fuel. It will be greeted by checkered flags when it arrives.
Their trip is sponsored by Neste, the world's largest producer of renewable diesel, and CLP Motorsports. Neste supplied the NEXBTL renewable diesel that the car is using. The car will be driven in by Tanner Foust, four-time X Games gold medal winner, three-time U.S. Rallycross champion and two-time Formula Drift champion, and Pat O'Keefe, the owner of CLP Motorsports and organizer of the challenge. Luke Lonberger and Michel von Disterlo from CLP Motorsports also helped with the long-distance driving chores.
The challenge for the team was to make it from Atlantic Coast of Florida to the Pacific Coast of California on just one tank of renewable fuel. They left on Sunday, June 21, and are in Santa Monica, California after traversing 2,400 miles and passing through eight states. They're driving a Superlite Coupe (SLC) that is custom-built by CLP Motorsports. It is powered by a modified Volkswagen 1.9 TDI diesel engine.
WHEN/WHERE
The welcome party will start at 10:30 a.m. with the car expected to show up around 11 a.m. at Loews Hotel, 1700 Ocean Blvd., Santa Monica, CA.
WHY
Neste's NEXBTL renewable diesel can replace petroleum diesel on a drop-in basis due to having the same chemical properties as the ultra-low sulfur diesel. It can also reduce carbon dioxide emissions compared to conventional diesel by up to 90 percent over its lifecycle. NEXBTL is fully compatible with all diesel engines and delivers better performance because it has higher cetane and burns more completely than petroleum diesel. NEXBTL is not the same product as biodiesel (FAME).
Neste provides NEXBTL renewable diesel to U.S. refiners, blenders and fuel distributors. NEXBTL is available to consumers at retail stations in Northern California and will be coming to Southern California by the end of the summer.
