EverFi Partners with SCLC on Digital Education Alliance
Partnership to focus on K-12 schools and community organizations
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Aug. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- EverFi, Inc., the leading critical skills education company, today announced a partnership with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), one of the nation's preeminent civil rights and social justice organizations. The partnership will foster the deployment of cutting-edge digital learning tools focused on African-American history and summer learning opportunities. EverFi will become the SCLC's endorsed digital education partner in these areas and will work directly with the organization to deploy learning opportunities in communities across the southern United States.
The SCLC was founded in 1957 by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to promote spiritual principles within local communities and is today focused on educating youth and adults in the areas of personal responsibility, leadership, and community service. The organization recently celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington, a seminal event in the U.S. Civil Rights Movement.
"Education and empowerment are two of the most critical mandates for our organization," said SCLC President and CEO Dr. Charles Steele, Jr. "This partnership with EverFi helps us bring engaging digital learning tools to a new generation of students and helps them learn from the powerful inspirations and lessons of African-American history in a vivid and impactful way."
To announce the partnership, EverFi CEO Tom Davidson will deliver a keynote at the general assembly of the SCLC Annual Convention on Monday, August 11 in Birmingham, AL.
"Beginning with its leadership under Martin Luther King, Jr. and continuing today under Dr. Steele, the SCLC has been a true leader in advocating for civic engagement and social justice," said EverFi CEO Tom Davidson. "EverFi was started in the shadow of the Civil Rights Movement in cities like Tuskegee, Montgomery and Birmingham, and we couldn't have a better partner to empower students with the important skills that help them to be successful in life."
EverFi's 306 – African-American History learning course was developed in collaboration with Dr. Clayborne Carson, Professor of History and Director of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute at Stanford University. The course content is organized into short interactive vignettes focused on specific events, individuals, and concepts that played a major role in African-American history. Through the use of EverFi's technology and instructional design expertise, historical events come to life through engaging digital media, personalized learning simulations, and robust assessment.
With backing from some of technology's most innovative leaders including Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos, Twitter founder Evan Williams, and Google Chairman Eric Schmidt, EverFi has built the most comprehensive critical skills platform and has reached over 9 million students and adult learners.
