PHILADELPHIA, March 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Expanse Bioinformatics has recently been awarded three new patents by the United States Patent & Trademark Office, now bringing the portfolio to a total of 27 issued patents. The three new patents include US Patent 8,655,908, directed at genetically based lifestyle changes to modify predispositions to a condition (e.g. disease avoidance); US 8,655,899, which covers creating associations in a social network based in part on common genetic attributes (genetic friends and "SNP buddies"); and US 8,655,915 which covers the fundamental concept of genetic based item recommendations.
"Genetic based product recommendations are not that far away," stated Dr. Charles Eldering, a co-inventor on the portfolio and the '915 patent. "Along with personalized medicine becoming reality, numerous industries, ranging from cosmeceuticals, consumer electronics, and even fashion, will adopt genetic based product recommendation technology. Consumers will want to know what products are best suited for them based on their genes."
Expanse Bioinformatics began its research in 2007 and has obtained a leadership position in intellectual property in the personalized medicine, genetic based lifestyle improvement, and genetic social networking/recommendation space.
