Live like a Ewing
Fans who wish to gain a full-fledged taste of Dallas must visit Southfork Ranch, the internationally renowned filming location for the series that is also known worldwide as "America's most famous ranch." In the iconic home, visitors can relive the events of the show, and partake in guided tours of the Ewing Mansion and Southfork to see how the Ewings really lived. The "Dallas Legends" exhibit features memorabilia from the set, including costumes, the gun that shot J.R., and even Jock's car.
Lose your Cool
A destination only for the brave is Zero Gravity Dallas, a "Thrill Amusement Park" featuring five different extreme thrill rides. Visitors can dare to try Nothin' but Net, a ride where the gutsy are released from a 130-foot drop with no bungee, no parachute, and no straps. The only life-saving mechanism is a mere safety net below. And while the park ensures the reliability of the netting (they claim the landing is so smooth, it is almost unnoticeable), riders will surely feel a stomach-wrenching jolt even before being dropped. Other pulse-raising rides include the Bungee Jump, the Skycoaster, and Texas Blastoff, a giant slingshot that shoots riders attached to a bungee 150 feet into the air followed by an immediate freefall full of twists, turns, and flips.
Travelers looking to visit Zero Gravity can stay at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel, located a short 12 minutes from the park and 10 miles from downtown Dallas. As part of the Hotels.com Summer Sale, park-goers and other visitors alike can save 10 percent for one night, 20 percent for two nights, and 30 percent for three nights on travel between now and September 30, 2012, when they book before August 31, 2012.
Discover your Wild Side
Another activity that roars with energy and excitement and can be enjoyed by all members of the family is the Dallas Zoo. With 106 sensational acres to explore, thousands of animals to visit, and a huge variety of family activities, the Dallas Zoo is wonderfully entertaining. Guests can feed tall and proud giraffes at the new "Giants of the Savanna" exhibit and ride the specially designed Monorail Safari, the only one in the United States engineered to climb and turn, through six different habitats in "Wilds of Africa." Kids can also visit the Lacerte Family Children's Zoo where they can splash in the stream, ride ponies, and feed birds while learning about wildlife conservation and the environment.
Finish the night at Hotel Lawrence located just seven minutes away from the zoo. Currently at just $69 a night on Hotels.com, visitors can save an extra 10 percent for one night and 20 percent for two nights on stays through September 30. Situated in Dallas' West End District, this historic hotel is conveniently across the street from Union Station, two blocks from the Sixth Floor Museum, and three blocks from the Dallas Convention Center.
Fight to the Death
To gear up for a load of intense, rowdy fun, take in a show at Medieval Times Dallas and enjoy a feast fit for the Ewings while watching an epic battle of steel and steed. Guests are served a four-course banquet as they cheer for one of six Knights competing in a live jousting tournament. As they applaud their brave and honorable Knight, audience members will discover an action-packed journey of old and be flooded with adrenaline by night's end.
Turn Heads
After experiencing all the high intensity that Dallas offers, The Stoneleigh Hotel & Spa, located just four minutes from Medieval Times in the Uptown district of Dallas, is the perfect place to unwind. This 4.5 star hotel features marble pillars, hand-blown glass chandeliers, and a collection of works crafted by Texas artisans, as well as a 5,200-square-foot spa which includes hydrotherapy tubs, five-jet showers, relaxation rooms, a salon, and massage treatment rooms. Through Hotels.com, guests can book rooms by August 31, 2012 to receive 25 percent off a two-night stay when traveling between now and September 30, 2012.
Find many more great deals in Dallas and nationwide with Hotels.com Summer Sale and receive $25, $50 or $100 cash back in the form of a prepaid cash card.
