The 224,000-square-foot facility features industry-leading technology for accuracy, patient safety and driving down the cost of healthcare.
"The Express Scripts Technology & Innovation Center advances our long-standing commitment to make the use of prescription drugs safer and more affordable," said George Paz, chairman and chief executive officer of Express Scripts. "Our Home Delivery pharmacy technology is second to none, enabling us to virtually eliminate dangerous errors, drive down unnecessary costs, and improve safety, service and therapy adherence."
Gov. Jay Nixon and other state, federal, and local government officials are to attend the opening ceremony and tour the pharmacy and Service Central area.
"It was important to locate the Center — so central to our mission at Express Scripts — very close to our world headquarters campus," Paz said. "Today's celebration is the culmination of much planning and hard work, accomplished with the support of the elected officials and contractors who are here today."
The new Home Delivery pharmacy at the Center is the most advanced in the Express Scripts Home Delivery system, which has an accuracy rate greater than 99.99%. That compares to 98.3% accuracy at ordinary retail pharmacies. "The difference may seem small, but it means that our three Home Delivery pharmacies nationwide eliminate 2 million drug errors each year as a result of our improved accuracy versus retail," Paz noted.
He added that the patient and client advocates in the Service Central area of the facility offer best-in-class service day and night, handling patient-service calls and making outbound calls related to new Home Delivery prescriptions, refills, benefits and more.
Service Central also includes a pilot pharmacy that will test innovative ideas to provide continuous improvement in Home Delivery and keep it best in class. "The pilot pharmacy focuses on improvements in patient safety, service consistency and lowering costs per prescription," Paz said. "It drives the evolution of the pharmacy of the future."
