NEW HAVEN, Conn., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Fairview Research, a provider of data enrichment technology and services for technical information retrieval and analysis, announced today that it has acquired Wilmington, Del.-based IFI Patent Intelligence from Wolters Kluwer Pharma Solutions. IFI is the leading producer of value-added U.S. patent databases and indexing services. The acquisition allows Fairview to augment its existing data standardization technologies and broaden its intellectual property expertise. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
IFI will continue to offer all of its current products and services and will operate as IFI CLAIMS Patent Services from its existing Delaware offices. Fairview anticipates maintaining the high level of customer service and support that IFI customers expect, with no lapse in service as a result of the change of ownership. In the long term, the company believes customers will benefit from the combined strengths of the two organizations, which together will create one of the industry's most powerful and comprehensive sets of patent analysis capabilities.
"The IFI acquisition is a good fit, both strategically and in terms of helping us to better serve our customers," said Mike Baycroft, CEO, Fairview Research. "We put in place plans to make the transition as smooth as possible for customers and a commitment to continue offering an unchanged, high level of customer service."
Fairview Research was founded in 2006 by Baycroft, the chief architect of MicroPatent's PatentWeb, the first commercial patent data archive available on the Internet. MicroPatent was acquired by Thomson Scientific where Baycroft became VP of Corporate Technology Solutions until leaving to found Fairview Research.
Today, Fairview's data enrichment technology and services help automate the process of retrieving and analyzing large technical databases. The firm's advanced indexing and standardization improve the quality of search results, while, at the same time, help reduce costs associated with specialized research. The company also maintains a comprehensive, global patent collection, which is now fully complemented by the addition of IFI's vast U.S. dataset.
For more than 50 years, IFI has been the preeminent producer of enhanced U.S. patent databases. IFI utilizes the powerful indexing and standardization algorithms of CLAIMS®, the most reliable, text-searchable database of U.S. patents in the world. CLAIMS® is available via Dialog, STN International and Questel.
CLAIMS® is a registered trademark of IFI CLAIMS Patent Services.
