False Email Bounces Can Cause Six-Figure Sales Losses
*New technology separates real from fake bounces*
EVERGREEN, Colo., July 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Bounced emails make savvy marketers crazy, especially because they can represent hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost sales. John Brogan CEO of Global IntelliSystems says, "Nobody is looking at the bounces. Companies assume they should delete these outliers, but we found that up to 85% of typical bounces are due to problems with the sender or their network."
Global IntelliSystems, based in Evergreen, Colorado, just released its newly upgraded bounce-analysis tool. The application separates real from fake bounces and gives clients today's most in-depth scrutiny of bounced messages available.
What's the big deal? Isn't email dying in the wake of social media's rise in popularity? Not according to HubSpot's Inbound Marketing Hub. They say that email is far from dead. Furthermore, Ginger Conlon, Editor-In-Chief of Direct Marketing News warns, "Do not make the mistake of being complacent or overly confident with your email strategy or execution."
Businesses work hard to build and maintain their email lists, and every address has value. Social media teams send tens of thousands of emails, and they might believe that losing a few emails to bounces is not a big deal. But those companies are killing the golden goose. Brogan says, "By letting some data managers rush to delete "extinct" email addresses, a company is losing business it does not have to lose. That's what makes us different. With our new bounce-analysis tool, we dig deeper into the bounced message and the network itself to find the real reason for the bounce. Some clients were very unhappy to realize that before switching to our service they were kicking good customers off their lists for no reason. It is no different than throwing money away."
One of Global IntelliSystems' retail customers was about to delete 40% of its presumed bad email addresses that had "bounced." Global tracked the emails through its innovative new system and found that the addresses weren't all bad. In fact, only 5% were bad. Brogan says, "The company had been deleting addresses for almost a full year without realizing its network was the cause of the problem, not the addresses. We helped them fix the root cause of the problem and mail flowed freely again."
With this new technology, companies can avoid misclassified bounces and potentially crippling sales losses. While some bounces are irretrievable, many more are salvageable, and the email addresses are road-ready for many re-engagement campaigns to come. Brogan says, "A bounced message is not the end of the story."
