Family of Severely Burned Disabled Boy Files Civil Lawsuit Against NU ERA HOME HEALTH AGENCY, INC., and Their Employee, DEBRA HUNNIFORD (Nurse)
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., June 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Mark J. Peacock, Esq. representing the family of Adam Bautista, announces the filing of a civil complaint (Case #: CIVDS1506059 - San Bernardino County Superior Court) as against NU ERA HOME HEALTH AGENCY, INC. and their employee DEBRA HUNNIFORD (Nurse). The Bautista family has filed their lawsuit against these defendants for their negligence, which they allege led to the severe burning and permanent scarring of their beloved son, Adam Bautista (4 years old).
According to the civil complaint, on or about March 20, 2015 through March 21, 2015 Adam Bautista (allegedly while in the care and custody of Debra Hunniford and Nu Era Home Health Agency Inc.) was severely and permanently burned. Adam Bautista is a minor child who suffers from Hydranencephaly - his cerebral hemispheres are absent and his remaining cranial cavity is filled with cerebrospinal fluid. As a result of his condition, Adam is always 100% dependent on those who are charged with his care and custody such as NU ERA HOME HEALTH AGENCY, INC. and their employee DEBRA HUNNIFORD.
While in the care and custody of Debra Hunniford (Nurse/employee for Nu Era Home Health Agency, Inc.), the suit alleges, Adam suffered severe and permanent burn injuries. Evidence shows that Adam was probably burned with something dangerous/sinister: Sodium hydroxide. The shirt Adam was wearing at the time of the incident revealed evidence of "alkali, probably sodium hydroxide" and that "this would cause severe blistering and pain," according to an analysis conducted by Neil Spingarn, Ph.D., S&N Labs. This is what appears to have burned little Adam. Sodium hydroxide is lye and caustic soda - commonly found in liquid drain cleaners, etc.
"It is reprehensible that this would happen to such a young and totally dependent child," said Mark Peacock Attorney for the Bautista Family. "The Bautistas entrusted their beloved son to Nu Era Home Health Agency and their employee Debra Hunnifod. Why was Ms. Hunniford allowed to take Adam from his house? Why was he burned? What was he burned with? Why did it take hours to report the incident to the Bautistas? Did Nu Era do an adequate background check on Ms. Hunniford? It's time to get some answers," added Peacock. "I am looking forward to the litigation so as to discover all the facts surrounding this tragic event."
