Family Support Foundation for Mental Illness 5th Annual Charity Golf Event
WAYNE, Pa., Oct. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Family Support Foundation for Mental Illness (FSFMI) hosted its 5th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Tour 18, in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Over $75,000 was raised during the event. These funds will help support individuals and families coping with mental illness and will help raise awareness to combat the unfair and unwarranted stigma of mental illness. Three highly effective organizations were designated as FSFMI's primary beneficiaries this year, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Active Minds, and the Lone Survivor Foundation. In additional, funds will help establish a new literary award to recognize and celebrate young people's literary accomplishments related to mental illness.
Speaking at the event was the Executive Director of The Lone Survivor Foundation, Terry Jung. Mr. Jung gave an overview of LSF, which restores, empowers and renews hope for wounded service members and their families through health, wellness and therapeutic support.
Also speaking was a individual who benefited from last year's fundraiser, SSgt Jason Morgan, US Air Force Special Operations from Halo for Freedom Warriors Foundation. SSgt Morgan spoke to the attendees about the positive impact that support from organizations like FSFMI has on our returning military and their families. He also introduced his new service dog Ru who was quite the camera hog.
Fifteen sports celebrities participated and showed their support for the event. Major corporate sponsors included Huawei, which was the title sponsor for the event. Zip Wireless and Cellular One of Texas and Louisiana also participated for the 5th year as major sponsors.
