FANN Announces Receiving its 501c(3) Certification & its First Fundraising Initiative
Local Baltimore non-profit helps families in the area with disabled children adjust to their new normal
LUTHERVILLE, Md., Aug. 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Finding a New Normal (FANN), a non-profit based in Baltimore, officially received its 501c(3) certification from the IRS last month. FANN was founded by Ed Slattery and is dedicated to providing resources to construct home modifications for families with disabled children while developing and optimizing daily living aides that support universal design. Slattery grew up with a sister with Cerebral Palsy and now has a permanently disabled 17-year-old son after a horrific accident that changed his and his family's lives forever. On August 16th, 2010, a truck driver fell asleep behind the wheel, killing his wife, injuring one son, and disabling the youngest. Ed has seen the difficulties and extreme stress added on to families with disabled children, along with the substantial gap between the need for and supply of accessible environments over the last 30 years, which is what motivated him to create FANN.

FANN's first fundraising initiative is focused on raising money for a little girl named Sarah. Sarah was born with a rare metabolic disorder and is now wheelchair bound with Cerebral Palsy. As it stands, this 8-year-old girl faces a lifetime of challenges, one being that her wheelchair currently does not fit through her home's hallways or doorframes. As Sarah grows, it is becoming increasingly difficult for her mother to carry her from room to room just to complete every day activities. FANN plans on renovating her home so her older siblings, parents, and most importantly, Sarah, can adjust to their new normal.
"FANN is dedicated to producing homes that are inherently accessible to people of all abilities, in turn, enhancing the independence and well being of those that are disabled," says Ed Slattery.
Join FANN in advancing Universal Design and modifying homes to create unobstructed living environments for those like Sarah by donating here. Together we can make a difference.
