F.A.S.T. Ride Motorcycle Event in Chicago's Western Suburbs to Fight Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder:

CHICAGO, June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) costs Illinois an estimated amount of $344,625,810 every year. Of all the potential birth disorders, FASD is the most preventable and the most common.  Drinking alcohol while pregnant can cause FASD and it affects 40,000 infants a year, more than Spina Bifida, Down Syndrome and Muscular Dystrophy combined.  Education and funding is needed to continue to spread the word about alcohol and pregnancy and to help those with FASD children.

The Chicago-area FASTeam and motorcycle enthusiasts from around the state are riding to raise awareness with the 2010 F.A.S.T. Ride.

The ride features police-stopped intersections for non-stop riding enjoyment, plus a light lunch at the Moose Lodge in Morris, Illinois.  Riders and non-riders gather back at Galway's Bar & Grill at 3:00 PM for a post-ride party featuring a dinner buffet, a live band and raffles with prizes ranging from cash to HDTVs.

"We started the ride in 2004 and we now get hundreds of riders who come out to enjoy it and support FASD awareness," said Walt Teichen, chairman of the FASTeam board of directors and co-founder the organization with his wife Kathy.  "My family has been dramatically impacted by FASD and we want to help others avoid our heartache.  The mission of the FASTeam is to raise awareness of, and aid in the prevention of, FASD and this ride helps raise awareness, provides a gathering point for FASD families and raises funds to support education and legislation."
