CARDIFF, Wales, November 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Students beginning their studies at the University of Glamorgan in February 2013 will, for the first time, be able to 'fast track' the first year of their degree course.
Fast Track First Year applicants will be given the chance to complete the first year of their degree between February and July 2013, before starting their second year in September 2013. If successful, they will graduate at the same time as if they had begun studies in September 2012.
Market research shows that there are significant numbers of people who, for various reasons, didn't take up university places in September for whom a mid-year start would be just right.
The accelerated learning plans mean that applicants have to be motivated to succeed and be of a high standard. Some on-campus halls of residence will be available for February start students and they will be allocated an accommodation officer to help them find suitable accommodation.
For students taking up the courses from across the border in England, they will be eligible to claim a Fast Track bursary of £1,500 towards their accommodation costs.
The University is holding two open events for potential February start students on 4 December (1-4pm) and 19 January 2013 (10am-1pm).
Director of Recruitment and External Affairs, Peter Crofts, said, "The initiative will complement what has traditionally been a recruitment point for the international market. It's targeting the pool of UK students who, for whatever reason, elected not to start university in September, by offering them the chance to 'get back on track' to where they would have been had they started a course in September 2012."
This year Glamorgan was named in the top 10 universities in the UK for the success of its graduates at finding jobs. 93% of the University's graduates are in employment or further study 6 months after graduation. Glamorgan was also named top new university in Wales for student satisfaction in the 2012 National Student Satisfaction Survey.
