CHICAGO, Jan. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- FastModel Sports, the leading playbook software provider to the NBA and NCAA, announces the launch of Gooroo, an app that guides youth basketball coaches through an entire season of practices featuring Olympic gold medalist and Hall-of-Fame coach Tara VanDerveer and, new this week, George Karl, the 2013 NBA Coach of the Year.

FastModel Sports has developed a customer base that includes all 30 NBA teams, over 500 Division I programs and over 5,000 college and high school coaches. The company is now committing to a broader mission: keeping kids involved in sports so they can benefit from the many social, emotional and physical benefits of organized athletics.
"Most people don't know that although organized sports are offered in most communities, nearly 75 percent of young athletes drop out before the age of 15," said FastModel Founder Ross Comerford. "We believe we can keep more kids involved and benefiting from sports by empowering youth coaches with tools to provide engaging, skill-building practice sessions. Gooroo reduces stress and delivers the instruction youth coaches need to teach the game."
Available now free for the iPhone and iPad in the iTunes app store, Gooroo offers two youth basketball curriculums designed by VanDerveer and Karl. Coaches can access an entire season of practices – including over 150 youth basketball drills for girls and boys in grades 5-8.
Visually diagrammed drills, complete with instructional videos are available at coaches' fingertips through an easy-to-use interface.
"Gooroo combines coaching with technology, making it easy for parent and volunteer coaches to access a basketball practice planned by a professional coach," said VanDerveer. "Now a busy parent or volunteer coach can get a full season of practices right on their phone so they arrive at practice with a real tool to help young people enjoy the game and be successful in the game."
"Technology like this can help coaches create better experiences for players, increasing their likelihood to stay involved with basketball into their young adult years," said Karl. "I am excited to be a part of Gooroo's mission and to give back to the game by helping youth coaches."
