Feronia Forests LLC is dedicated to finding innovative ways to conserve valuable forests for future generations and is interested in long-term opportunities that keep forests healthy and standing, combining conservation with education and recreation. Valentina and Paolo Cugnasca, a father-daughter team, are the driving force behind Feronia's unique approach to sustainable forestry.
"Feronia Forests receives this award because of its Sustainable Full Forestry™ strategy which our brands demonstrate. With Vertical Maple Water, we created an innovative beverage using the sap of maple trees that also helps conserve our forests, keeping trees vertical," says Valentina Cugnasca. "Mission:Maple is our maple syrup sourced from FSC-certified forests. Ramblewild, Feronia's first aerial adventure park, provides an exhilarating and challenging tree-to-tree experience. We host wind turbines on one of our properties and are in the process of developing a solar plant. Last, Feronia Forward is a 501c3 non-profit that provides outreach programs for students to teach them the importance of our forests and conservation."
Additional 2015 Best For the Environment Honorees include: Natura, Method Products, Seventh Generation and WasteZero. A complete list can be found at bestfortheworld.bcorporation.net. Each honored company is a Certified B Corporation. These companies use the power of business to solve social and environmental problems and have met rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
"Today's honorees inspire all companies to compete not only to be best in the world, but best for the world. We hope many will take the first step by using the B Impact Assessment to measure and manage their impact with as much rigor as their profit," said Jay Coen Gilbert, Co-Founder of B Lab, the nonprofit organization that certifies B Corporations and governs the independent third party standard used to generate the comparable assessment of corporate impact.
