Fidelity Calls for Action to Reauthorize NFIP for 2-5 Years
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., April 26, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Fidelity National Indemnity Insurance Company, the nation's largest flood insurance provider, sent a call to action to their nationwide independent agency network to voice their support for reform and a five year authorization for the NFIP prior to the May 31, 2012 deadline. Fidelity asks their over 17,000+ strong independent agency base to support a message to Congress sent by W. Craig Fugate, FEMA administrator, indicating "The reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), before it expires, is essential to our nation's ability to prevent and recover from flood disasters."

Fidelity hopes that the voices of their agents supporting the goals of the NFIP, reform and re-authorization and the security of a strong federal flood insurance program will move congressional leaders to act to approve reauthorization for the NFIP prior to the upcoming May 31, 2012 program deadline. Patty Templeton Jones, COO of Fidelity National Indemnity Insurance Company stated: "We ask Fidelity agents to join FEMA's recent appeal to prevent any lapse and to seek reform and a 5 year re-authorization for the NFIP to provide the strength, stability, and commitment that citizens and communities need to protect their homes and businesses alike." Fidelity provided tools to their agents to reach their congress members and will continue to keep flood agents informed of any status changes with the NFIP program.
Congressional inaction over the past 2 years has resulted in program lapses of 53 days when mandatory flood insurance coverage was unavailable to consumers adding further instability and uncertainty to our nation's struggling real estate market. In addition, as noted in Administrator Fugate message to congressional leaders "In the absence of such a commitment (to the NFIP) communities are less likely to make the investments needed to successfully sustain, strengthen and grow the program—thereby undermining the NFIP's effectiveness and efficiency over time."
