LONDON, June 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Fiona Ross has never followed convention, and her upcoming album Moments in My Notebook, out now, proves her boundless creativity. Featuring the singles "Let Your Soul Shine" and "I Don't Want Money," the album marks Ross's 100th original song release.
Spanning 21 tracks of jazz-fueled storytelling, the award-winning vocalist, pianist, composer, and producer captures love, loss, discovery, and creative drive. From intimate ballads to Latin jazz rhythms, the collection blends personal reflection with dynamic musical range.
"I still write everything in notebooks," Ross shares. "Some songs started with a bass line, some with a lyric, some from something I overheard in a café. This album is 21 moments from those pages." The album even includes two songs she wrote as a teenager, finally brought to life.
"Let Your Soul Shine" was sparked by a simple sign at a market stall. "I walked home, sat at the piano, and the song poured out in ten minutes." "Pirates in Paris," a romantic anthem of freedom, celebrates Ross's personal escape: "Paris has always been my place to just be me."
"I Don't Want Money" reflects the artist's struggle to create in a world dominated by cost: "This song is for every creative who just wants to do what they love." Another standout, "Voices Unheard," pays tribute to overlooked figures in history, name-checking Melba Liston, James Baldwin, Countee Cullen, Mary Lou Williams, and Ida B. Wells.
"China Told Me: The Live Session," inspired by China Moses, was rehearsed and recorded in one day at Premises Studios with an all-female, all-empowered team, including teen ensemble J Steps, and rising vocalist Mary Sho.
Ross recorded the album with a stellar lineup: Gibbi Bettini (guitar), Derek Daley (bass), Marley Drummond (drums), Loren Hignell (woodwinds), Simon Todd (percussion), and Dave Boa (trumpet), with guest spots by Charlotte Keeffe, Laura Impallomeni, Diana Torti, and more. The album was produced across several studios, balancing the spirit of live jazz with polished production.
The closing track, "100 Songs," reflects on Ross's journey and legacy: "What would my parents say if they were here?" It's a tender finale to a milestone moment.
