First App to Support Portion Control with Images and Social Media Launches
Piatto system for weight management reflects new thinking about healthy diet
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- aTavola, Inc., announces the launch of Piatto, an iPhone App that helps users achieve diet goals using food portion images and daily event tracking. Piatto is distinguished from other diet apps with its unique database of photos and its feature for choosing portions to meet nutrition goals. Piatto includes options for setting goals, diet types, and tracking food and exercise, plus it integrates with social media. Piatto's Web site www.PortionsMatter.com offers instructions and information.
"Portion control—being aware of and eating healthy amounts of food—is an important part of weight management," explains Anthony DeLizza, aTavola's President. "Studies show the more food put in front of you, the more you are likely to eat. Visual portion control is easier than tracking numbers."
Piatto joins Michelle Obama in ChooseMyPlate.gov, which uses portion plates instead of the food pyramid—promoting portion control and eating a healthy mix. Balancing the amount on your plate to avoid overeating is effective in dieting.
"Piatto was developed in Italy where eating—even when dieting—is an enjoyable art," adds Mr. DeLizza. "We were motivated to develop something for the US market, and The Biggest Loser drove home the usefulness of social interaction. Sharing photos and experiences is for people who enjoy posting progress and success via Facebook. Portion control and reinforcement from friends should help weight loss."
About Piatto
Piatto —Italian for "plate"— is distinguished with photos from other diet apps. Plates show what amounts of food look like. Finger swiping rotates between portion sizes. Swiping also "erases" for precise tracking. Rotating gives nutrition information. Photos can be added, and Facebook sync shares the food journey. The dashboard, log and report give an overview of how much was eaten or burned via exercise. Relation to goals provides information to help make daily choices. Piatto is available via the iTunes App Store for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, supporting English, Spanish, and Italian.
